Hopi Wicker Tray

Description: Hopi Wicker Basket. Some time ago, and for reasons yet unknown, a specialization developed in Hopi basket making. Wicker basketry is made only in the villages of Third Mesa and in Moencopi. The Hopi name is yungyapu or “flat wicker plaque” and is used for ceremonial purposes. This basket is in excellent condition and the circa is 1900-1910.
